About MATKINS FLOWERS & GREENHOUSE
We are a local Bentonville, Arkansas family owned and operated florist and garden center for almost a century! We have a full service flower shop with a lovely variety of fresh flowers and custom arrangements to suit any occasion. In our greenhouses, we grow and raise vegetables, bedding plants and flowers, perennials, annuals, hanging baskets, poinsettias, mums, easter lilies, indoor plants and tropicals.
Henry Lennie Sr. purchased the property on the corner of Third and B St. in downtown Bentonville in 1927. He started with field grown cash crops like cabbage, peppers, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. His son Henry Lennie Jr. also worked alongside him. He and his wife Hazel left during WWII to build aircraft in Kansas from 1942-45. Upon their return they added glass houses and expanded their business. A few years later they opened a small flower shop and expanded it when they built onto their house. They lived on the property and raised 2 girls and a boy- Jim who carried on the business. Jim continued to live on the property and expand the business into more vegetables, bedding plants and house plants. He had one son Jeff who now handles all the business while Jim still puts in full days and weeks. Jeff's son Justin is a consistent helper while he goes to school. Jeff's entire family contributes to planting and transplanting at crucial times during the year. Five generations of Matkins who have worked hard to keep their family legacy thriving!
Matkins Flowers and Greenhouse is now one of the oldest businesses in Bentonville working out of the two original homes and 8 greenhouses. As Bentonville is swiftly growing and changing, this is a unique look at what this small business has been to the community for almost 100 years! They plan to continue to help in wholesale and retail capacity to gardeners, landscapers, house plant lovers and flower lovers through the flower shop services.
